Arteta Fears Injury Woes Could Hinder The Gunners' Trophy Hunt

Mikel Arteta has expressed concern that his team's pursuit for titles this campaign is being threatened by a worrying circle of fitness setbacks and a grueling fixture list.

Key midfielder Declan Rice did not travel for the midweek clash to Belgium due to illness. Meanwhile, forward Leandro Trossard and defender William Saliba remain unavailable.

There was, however, positive news regarding Gabriel Jesus, with the Brazilian striker added to their Champions League squad. He replaces the injured youngster Max Dowman, who suffered an foot injury.

"Training, no because we lack time to train. But obviously the fact that you are missing players, you are loading other players more, there's a consequence to that and it's a really vicious cycle."

Dowman's setback is the most recent in a long series of fitness problems for the North London side. Since the start of last season, they have recorded 95 injuries, the second-highest total in the Premier League.

Extended Absences

Defenders Cristhian Mosquera and Gabriel Magalhães are unlikely to be back until 2025.
Midfielder Kai Havertz still rehabilitate from surgery and "requires more time," as stated by the boss.

Arteta rejected the suggestion that training methods were to culprit, citing a shortage of time for sessions. He emphasized the strain on available players, some of whom have featured over 150 matches in two seasons.

Transfer Strategy

Even after a major summer investment over £250 million, Arteta insisted the team is unlikely planning to dip into the January recruitment market.

"At the moment we're just concentrating on getting the players back and hopefully it will be a question of weeks," he said. "It's clear how crucial those coming weeks are going to be."

Looking Ahead

The team suffered their initial defeat in 18 games at the weekend, cutting their advantage at the summit of the league to two points.

Focus now turns to the European stage, where a sixth consecutive group-stage win would virtually secure a top-eight finish. Forward Gabriel Martinelli could create history by scoring in a fifth consecutive European match.

"We are frustrated with the outcome, but we have to move forward," Martinelli said. "This isn't like everything is going badly because we lost one game. So we stick together."
